Smooth Moves – How to Remove Butt Hair for Good
Got butt hair? That’s an issue for plenty of men. Wondering how to get rid of ass hair, including how to remove hair from around the anus permanently? Then read on, we’ve got some smooth moves for you.
Why Do Some Men Have So Much Hair Down There?
Seriously, what’s up with all of that backside hair? You probably already know that men have more body hair than women. That part we can accept. In fact, it’s not that men even necessarily have more body hair; females actually have hair in all the same places. Humans are mammals, after all! The real difference is that women’s body hair tends to be much shorter and finer than men’s body hair.
Why is that? Most likely, it has to do with the influence of testosterone on body hair in men as they get older. Testosterone appears to stimulate hair follicle growth in areas including the eyebrows, ears, nostrils, shoulders, back, genitals, and buttocks. However, testosterone can have the opposite effect on head hair follicles, resulting in less hair on top. What a fun irony!
Reddit user Heffe3737 (a self-described hairy guy) proposes an interesting theory to explain the significance of butt hair:
“Humanity probably only exists now as a species due to ass hair – we should be thanking our lucky stars for it. The moon landing, electricity, pasteurization, splitting the atom? All of them and so many more of humanity’s greatest achievements, all thanks to a little hair on the tush.”
But is there a real evolutionary advantage to having a hairy butt? Probably not at this point in humanity’s existence. But since there’s also no evolutionary disadvantage in terms of species survival, the butt hair remains. And for some men, it doesn’t just remain – it only seems to get thicker, longer, and more prominent over time.
Why Might Men Want to Go Hairless?
All that being said, you might not be digging the whole hairy anus thing. That might have made sense for Grizzly Adams, but you’re neither a bear nor a bear whisperer (unless you are, in which case you likely live outside of our local Texas service area). Butt hair removal for men in Austin can offer several specific benefits in terms of hygiene, comfort, confidence, and intimacy.
- Hygiene – Butt hair can trap sweat and bacteria, leading to unpleasant odors and even skin infections like folliculitis.
- Comfort – Heat and friction between the buttocks can lead to irritation and chafing. Removing butt hair can help reduce the level of friction and discomfort.
- Confidence – Some men say they feel more confident and attractive by maintaining hair-free buttocks.
- Intimacy – A smooth, hairless area has been known to enhance the sensation of sexual contact, making intimate situations more enjoyable for both partners.
Are there any disadvantages? According to our trusted Reddit expert, Heffe3737, "Ass hair is a fart silencer. Seriously, when mine was gone my farts were like gunshots."
It’s really a question of personal preference, but many people prefer the feeling and aesthetic of a hair-free butt. You could just trim it or shave it yourself, but this type of hair removal approach can cause irritation, cuts, or ingrown hairs. Those are risks you certainly want to minimize, especially in sensitive areas like the crease of the buttocks and around the anus.
What’s the Deal with Laser Hair Removal?
Since there are some noted liabilities with the shave-and-trim approach, what are the good gentlemen of Austin, TX, to do with those hairy backsides? You could try waxing, but that’s honestly pretty painful in those sensitive spots. Laser hair removal is a superior solution, and it’s one of our specialties at Flycatcher.
We offer laser hair removal for all parts of a man’s body (front, back, even down there), to help you live your best, smoothest life. Our laser treatments for men in the ATX are strong enough to remove stubborn, coarse hair, yet gentle enough to work well in the most sensitive areas of the male anatomy.
How Does Laser Hair Removal Work?
A concentrated beam of light (that’s the laser part of laser hair removal, or LHR) is absorbed by the pigment in the hair, which then converts into heat energy. This heat is directed squarely at the hair follicle, damaging it and inhibiting future hair growth.
The LHR process is precise and targeted, meaning that only the hair follicle itself is affected; the surrounding skin is left unharmed. The efficacy of laser hair removal is dependent on several factors, including the color and thickness of the hair as well as the individual’s skin tone. But with the right equipment in the right professionally trained hands, laser hair removal can deliver long-lasting results.
The treatment process is quick and relatively painless, with most men experiencing only mild discomfort. Laser hair removal is an effective solution for reducing unwanted body hair, period.

What to Expect at Flycatcher
At Flycatcher, we pride ourselves on creating a comfortable environment and experience that will put any man at ease. Let’s cover some basics of what to expect...
Who will be performing my treatment? And will I be in any weird positions??
We make every effort to make you as comfortable as possible. We know it's not fun having your bum exposed and hit with heat from a laser. You won't have to contort into any strange positions where you'll feel less than human. Hearing our laser tech politely ask, "Spread your cheeks" is about as awkward as it will get.
Speaking of... our laser hair removal technicians are licensed with the state of Texas and have years of experience, including laser hair removal for men.
Who is and isn’t an ideal candidate for laser hair removal?
Our laser hair removal device works well with all skin tones, light to dark. An exception to this is very light skin with very light hair color (especially gray hair). The laser has a difficult time targeting these hair follicles. Also, if you are unable – or unwilling – to keep your treated area protected from the sun during pre- and post-treatment then you’re probably not a good candidate.
How to prepare for laser hair removal treatment?
Reducing your exposure to UV radiation is crucial before undergoing laser hair removal. This means avoiding sunbathing at Hippy Hollow and Barton Springs, tanning beds, and any other activities that might expose your treatment area to harmful UV rays.
It is equally important that you shave the treated area 24 hours before treatment; our laser technicians do not shave our clients genitals.
Make sure to clean your skin thoroughly before your appointment too, this will allow the laser to penetrate more effectively.
How long does a typical laser treatment last?
It really depends on the size and number of areas being treated. Small areas, like around the anus and perineum, can be treated in 15 minutes, but a larger combination area like The Hollywood take up to 45 minutes.
How painful will lasering my anus be?
Not as painful as waxing or electrolysis. Or maybe that's not the answer you were looking for...
In all seriousness, discomfort is often described as a slight pinch or snap. The laser hair removal technology we use at Flycatcher leverages a cooling system that helps numb the skin during treatment. A topical numbing cream can also be used if you prefer.
Additionally, the sessions are relatively short – especially if we're talking about laser hair removal for your anus – so any discomfort you may experience is typically over quickly.
Post-treatment care
Your body is most vulnerable during the first two weeks post-treatment, especially the first 48 hours. It's important to continue protecting the treated areas from direct sun. You'll be proud of your new hair-free buttocks but that doesn't mean you can show them off at the pool for the first two weeks.
For the first 48 hours, we advise that you abstain from strenuous activities that could promote sweating in your treated areas, including all sexual activity. Friction is not your friend!
What results can be expected? How many treatments will I need?
Laser hair removal really can be a permanent solution, but understand that it will take multiple treatments to get you the results you’re looking for. This isn’t a one-and-done solution. Men typically require at least six treatment sessions, and it isn’t uncommon to need up to 10 sessions. That said, you may get the results you desire with fewer treatments; everyone is different.
Darker skin tones can require more treatments, for example. Depending on your individual hair growth patterns and hormone levels, maintenance treatments could be needed to keep your body hair-free over time. An annual touch-up session is typically recommended to ensure that any new hair growth is effectively addressed so you can maintain the smooth, hair-free look you desire.
