# Male Brazilian Laser Hair Removal: What Men Can Treat—and How to Keep It Natural

Laser hair removal below the belt does **not** have to mean removing every pubic hair you have.

You can clean up selected areas. You can remove as much hair as possible from the shaft and scrotum while leaving the pubic area alone. You can thin the pubic hair without trying to eliminate it. Or you can treat essentially the entire region if that is what you want.

So the useful question is not really *Can men get Brazilian laser hair removal?*

They can.

The better question is:

**What do you want the whole area to look like when you are finished?**

Because when it comes to laser hair removal on a man's privates, how much hair you leave—and where you leave it—can matter just as much as what you remove.

## What Does a Male Brazilian Actually Include?

"Male Brazilian" and "Manzilian" do not have one universal definition. Different laser hair removal providers include different combinations of the pubic area, shaft, scrotum, perineum and buttocks.

- **Sunset Strip Light:** penile shaft + scrotum + perineum. The **perineum** is the external skin between the scrotum and anus.

When we talk about treating the shaft, scrotum or perianal region, we are talking about **external hair-bearing skin**. These are also established anatomical treatment areas in published medical laser hair-removal protocols.[\[1\]](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34414276/)

But there is another important distinction:

**The area you choose to treat does not dictate how hairless you have to become.**

You might want maximum reduction on the shaft and scrotum while simply thinning the pubic area. Someone else might leave the pubic hair entirely alone.

That is where treatment planning becomes more interesting than simply ordering a "Brazilian."

## Do You Have to Remove Everything?

No.

We generally think about the goal in three ways.

**Clean it up.** Treat unwanted hair around selected areas or edges while leaving most of the natural pubic hair intact.

**Reduce the density.** Treat a broader area but deliberately work toward less hair rather than no hair.

**Go for maximum reduction.** Continue treating the selected area with the goal of removing as much responsive hair as reasonably possible.

There is not one correct answer.

The important thing is knowing which of those you are trying to accomplish before you start—and continuing to evaluate it as treatment progresses.

## Thinning the Bush: You Can Keep Some Pubic Hair

This is one of the options men do not hear enough about.

You do not necessarily have to choose between a full bush and being completely bare.

A lot of guys simply want **less**.

Maybe you want to reduce the amount of trimming and shaving you have to do. Maybe you want the shaft and scrotum substantially clearer but still think some pubic hair looks better on you. Or maybe you naturally have body hair elsewhere and do not want one completely bare patch that looks disconnected from everything around it.

Laser hair removal can progressively reduce the density of darker, responsive hair over multiple treatments. Hair that remains or regrows may also become less noticeable over time.[\[2\]](https://www.aad.org/public/everyday-care/skin-care-basics/hair/remove-unwanted-hair)

But there is an important limitation:

**Laser is not a density dial.**

We cannot promise that you will finish with exactly 40%, 50% or 60% of the hair you started with. Different follicles respond differently, and only some hairs are in the most responsive stage of their growth cycle during any particular treatment.

So if thinning is the goal, we like a more conservative approach.

Treat it. Let the result develop. Look at what remains. Decide whether you actually want another treatment.

**There is no prize for removing more hair than you wanted.**

## The Transition Matters Too

How much hair remains is one decision.

**Where the treated area stops is another.**

Let's say you reduce most of the pubic hair but still have a dense happy trail immediately above it.

Or you clear the groin but have much heavier hair beginning on the upper thighs.

Or you remove hair between the cheeks while leaving extremely dense hair across the buttocks.

None of those combinations is medically wrong. But visually, the transition can become more noticeable than you expected.

That is why we look at the area as a whole.

Some men already have relatively light thigh hair, so the transition from the groin into the legs takes care of itself. Another guy may want to soften that boundary.

Some men want to retain a natural amount of pubic hair to visually connect the lower abdomen and legs. Others want essentially everything gone.

The goal is not to manufacture one ideal male grooming pattern.

**It is to make the result look intentional on your body.**

## Why I Changed My Mind About Removing Everything

I liked the way the area looked when it was groomed. I just did not like having to shave so often to keep it that way.

At first, I was pretty sure I wanted all of the hair gone—including the pubic area.

After my first couple of treatments, though, I realized I was actually really happy with the way the pubic hair was thinning out. I did not necessarily want that part completely bare anymore.

**I wanted it thinner.**

I have probably had eight treatments at this point. My goal now is to remove as much hair as possible from the shaft, scrotum, perineum and around the anus while keeping some natural pubic hair. My thigh hair is already pretty thin, so I do not have much of a transition issue there.

One thing that helped me was **being patient**.

A couple of times I deliberately put more time between treatments—not because I thought that would make the laser work better, but because I wanted everything to grow out enough that I could see exactly what I had left.

The pubic hair looked pretty uneven at different points during the process. But every time I let it grow out, there was noticeably less of it.

That gave me a chance to decide whether I had thinned it enough before treating it again.

I have never had a moment where I thought, *I went too far.* I think being patient is a big reason why.

If a guy is worried about ending up completely bare or looking weird, my advice is to be conservative.

Laser hair removal is a long process. Pay attention to what the area actually looks like as you go, and communicate what you want to the person treating you.

**You can always decide to do another treatment later.**

The treatment itself does not feel great.

For me, the area around the anus has been the most uncomfortable. I also noticed more discomfort where the hair was particularly dense around the base of my shaft.

As that hair has thinned, treating those areas has become easier for me to tolerate.

And honestly, the farther I have gotten into the process, the easier it is to put up with because I know I am getting close to the outcome I want.

I also knew going into this that I already had a few gray hairs.

Laser is not going to eliminate those, so I will probably always have a little shaving to do. That is not a big deal.

But if you are already thinking about laser hair removal and the grays have not arrived yet, there is something to be said for **starting before the grays move in**.

Finally, there is the provider situation.

Aurora is my wife, so obviously my experience is different from the average client's.

But I do think seeing the same provider matters quite a bit with a treatment this intimate. After several treatments, there is not any awkwardness. They already know what you are trying to accomplish.

And frankly, there is something to be said for not having to get comfortable with a different person every time.

**My takeaway after eight treatments: I wanted less hair. I eventually realized I did not want no hair everywhere. Those are two very different treatment goals.**

## Will It Look Patchy While You Are Going Through Treatment?

It can.

Hair does not respond uniformly from one appointment to the next. Different follicles are in different stages of their growth cycle, so an area can temporarily look uneven during a series.[\[3\]](https://www.aad.org/public/cosmetic/hair-removal/laser-hair-removal-faqs)

You may see places where considerably less hair is growing and other places where more remains.

That can be particularly noticeable if your goal is thinning, because you are paying close attention to what remains rather than simply trying to eliminate all of it.

**Do not confuse what the area looks like midway through treatment with what the finished result will look like.**

If we are deliberately reducing density, there can also be value in occasionally letting enough hair grow back that we can actually judge what remains and talk about whether you want to continue.

## How Many Treatments Will I Need?

At Flycatcher, we generally begin with a **series of six treatments spaced about six weeks apart** for these intimate areas.

That does not mean every guy is finished after six.

Your starting density, hair color, growth pattern and—most importantly—your desired endpoint all matter.

A guy pursuing maximum reduction may continue treating an area after someone who simply wanted less hair is perfectly happy with the result.

We would rather treat this as a progression than race toward a predetermined number.

After several treatments, we can look at what remains and ask:

**Do you actually want less hair than this?**

If the answer is no, that is useful information.

## How Much Does Male Brazilian Laser Hair Removal Hurt?

We will give it to you straight:

**It is not the most pleasant area to treat.**

Genital skin is sensitive, and published clinical protocols describe genital laser hair removal as potentially uncomfortable.[\[1\]](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34414276/)

The sensation is quick and sharp rather than lingering. Where you feel it most will vary from person to person and even from one part of the treatment area to another.

Cooling helps.

It does not make your scrotum forget that a laser is involved.

Fortunately, these are relatively compact treatment areas, so the uncomfortable part moves pretty quickly.

## Is Laser Hair Removal Safe on the Scrotum, Shaft and Perineum?

These external hair-bearing areas can be treated with laser hair removal, and treatment of the penile shaft, scrotum and perineum is documented in academic medical protocols.[\[1\]](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34414276/)

But we are still dealing with sensitive skin.

Wavelength selection, treatment settings, skin type, hair characteristics and technique all matter.

Temporary redness, swelling and sensitivity are common after laser hair removal. Burns, blistering, pigment changes, infection and scarring are less common but possible risks.[\[3\]](https://www.aad.org/public/cosmetic/hair-removal/laser-hair-removal-faqs)

That is one reason we need to know if you have recently tanned, if the skin is irritated or injured, or if you have started medications or developed anything else that might affect how your skin responds.

Men with darker skin can also be treated, but the wavelength and settings need to account for the pigment already present in the skin. ## How to Prepare for Treatment

**Shave the areas we are treating before your appointment.**

Do not wax, tweeze or pluck during your laser hair removal series. We need the pigmented hair within the follicle to provide a useful target for the laser.[\[5\]](https://www.aad.org/public/cosmetic/hair-removal/laser-hair-removal-preparation)

Do not worry about making the shave absolutely perfect.

We are aware that the scrotum, perineum and backside are not exactly the easiest places to navigate with a razor.

Do your best without repeatedly scraping over the skin trying to achieve the world's closest shave. Showing up with freshly irritated skin is not helpful either.

We also need to know if you have recently tanned, have irritation or a rash in the treatment area, or have had a medication change that could affect treatment.

If you are unsure whether something matters, tell us.

We would rather know.

## What Is the Downtime?

Usually, not much.

The skin may look red, feel warm or be mildly sensitive immediately after treatment.

For the first **48 hours**, we ask our clients to avoid hot showers, pools and spas, saunas, strenuous exercise and sex. The goal is to avoid unnecessary heat, sweat and friction while the treated skin settles down.

Keep the area clean. Wear something comfortable. Give the skin a chance to calm down.

Protect any exposed treated skin from sun while it is healing.

If you develop a reaction that seems more significant than the redness, warmth or sensitivity we told you to expect, let us know.

Laser hair removal may have very little traditional downtime, but the skin has still just been treated.

Treat it accordingly.

## One Catch: Laser Will Not Get the Gray Hairs

Laser hair removal depends on pigment in the hair.

Gray and white hairs do not contain enough melanin for conventional hair-removal lasers to effectively target them.[\[2\]](https://www.aad.org/public/everyday-care/skin-care-basics/hair/remove-unwanted-hair)

So if you have a few gray hairs mixed into otherwise darker pubic hair, the darker hairs may respond while the gray ones remain.

That does not mean the treatment is not worthwhile.

Going from routinely shaving a large amount of hair to occasionally shaving a few gray stragglers can still be a pretty dramatic change in your grooming routine.

It also leads to one practical observation from Chris's experience:

**If this is something you already know you want to do, there may be an advantage to starting before more of the hair loses its pigment.**

## Why Seeing the Same Provider Matters

You are taking your pants off.

There is value in seeing someone who is confident treating male anatomy, does not make the experience awkward and is not meeting your privates for the first time every six weeks.

## Frequently Asked Questions About Male Brazilian Laser Hair Removal

### Can laser hair removal on the scrotum affect fertility?

Published medical protocols describe repeated laser hair removal of external scrotal skin, but direct clinical studies designed specifically to measure sperm counts or fertility outcomes after cosmetic scrotal laser hair removal are limited.[\[1\]](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34414276/)

We are not aware of evidence showing that properly performed laser hair removal of the external scrotal skin causes male infertility. But we also do not think it is responsible to claim that extensive fertility-specific studies have proven there is zero conceivable risk.

If you have an active fertility concern or are being treated for infertility, discuss it with your physician before elective treatment.

### Can you get laser hair removal on your balls?

Yes.

More accurately, laser hair removal can be performed on the **external hair-bearing skin of the scrotum**.

### Will laser hair removal remove pubic hair permanently?

The better term is **long-term hair reduction**.

Laser treatment can produce a long-lasting reduction in the number of hairs that regrow, but it is not a guarantee that every treated follicle will disappear forever.

The FDA defines permanent hair reduction as a long-term, stable reduction in the number of hairs regrowing after a treatment regimen.[\[6\]](https://www.accessdata.fda.gov/cdrh_docs/pdf14/K140122.pdf)

Some men may eventually want occasional maintenance if enough bothersome growth returns.

### What if I am taking testosterone or TRT?

TRT does not automatically rule out laser hair removal.

But hormones can influence body-hair growth, so ongoing testosterone therapy may affect how your growth pattern evolves and how much maintenance you eventually want.

Maybe you want to clean up selected areas but leave most of your natural hair alone.

Maybe you want the full Hollywood.

**What do you want this area to look like?**

From there, we can talk about what you want reduced, what you want left alone, whether you want thinning or maximum reduction, and how the neighboring areas should blend.
